What have I been doing since high school? After High School, I continued my life style as a Hippie. Most of us remember being the “Psychedelic Generation”. I took on many jobs as a welder and pipe fitter helper with Brown and Root from 1969 to 1971. I received my draft papers in 1971 and entered the US Army. Trained to be an Armor (Tank) Crewman, but did not go to Viet Nam. I met many returning service men from the Viet Nam war at Fort Meade, Maryland. I was with the 6th Cavalry for a year and a half at Fort Meade. I felt most of the Viet Nam veterans were disillusioned and confused because of our nation not supporting them. Some I met turned to drugs in Viet Nam and brought their drug use to the States. It was with these men, that I was first introduced to heroin. In March of 1973 I was honorably discharged from the Army and I returned to Channelview. I then entered a trade school and became an apprentice union glazier (glass installer). In 1976 became a journeyman glazier and installed glass in some of the major high rise buildings in down town Houston. During this period, I continued my life style of drugs and partying. In 1977 I entered the Houston’s Veterans Administration Hospital drug treatment center for heroin addiction. During the 1980’s the economic situation was terrible in Houston because of the OPEC oil crisis. In 1981 I moved to Denver, Colorado it was a boomtown due to high-tech industries relocating there, which caused a lot of work for the construction trades. It was during the eighties that I worked and lived in Denver, Colorado, Charlottesville, Virginia, Baltimore, Maryland, and Los Angeles, California. It was not until 1990 that I returned to Houston. All during my time of following work, I continued my lifestyle of drugs and bad relationships with women, I was miserable and being tormented mentally and spiritually. I finally decided in 1991 to surrender my life completely to Jesus Christ as my LORD and Savior. It was only then did I experience the love and acceptance that I always longed for. In 1993, I met a beautiful Registered Nurse from South Carolina while serving as a missionary with Mercy Ships in the Dominican Republic. Debbie is her name and she is Gods’ gift to me. We where married in 1998 and in the year 2000, we founded Shiloh Ministries ( http://www.shilohmensministries.com/ ). We began to receive men from all over the United States. The ministry is a one year Bible School structured towards delivering a man from the slavery of drugs and or alcohol. Since opening Shiloh, the LORD has set many men free and restored them to live productive lives for His glory. Who am I? I am Rocky Fondren.
